Seasonal European Towns and Cities (in colour)

Thank you for entering my contest and for submitting such a beautiful photo of Alesund in Winter. This shot fascinated immediately as more than two thirds of the photo is essentially unlit, and then the sky just pops out at you. It almost shouldn't work, but it absolutely does. The light and busy composition of buildings really convey the feeling of a town in the grips of winter. Well done on a top 5 placing.

First of all, thank you for entering my contest. There were many images of Lofoten entered, but this is the first I've seen of this stunning location taken at a different time of year. Clear blue skies can often be the photographers nemesis but it complements the colour palette of this shot beautifully. The composition, with the horizon at the upper thirds line, reflection, and the framing from the vegetation in the lower half really works and the foreground light ensures the image isn't flat. I really hope to be able to visit here myself one day and your photo has opened my mind to possibilities beyond the usual. Congratulations on a well deserved first place.

Thank you for entering my contest. There were many photos entered of this iconic location, but this shot stood out for me as one the photographer had taken time over searching for a different composition to the usual. The focus is absolutely the town rather than the location and the photo dimensions really work and focus the eye on the red cabins. The light is interesting as it could have been a flat photo without the pop of sun on the left but this makes all the difference. It has me wondering what this view would be like at sunrise, would the light illuminate the cabins? It makes me want to see more which is a great achievement for a photograph. Well done on a top 5 place.
