This is a wonderfully bold and composed capture that's also a fine balancing between light and movement. I love the impact of the red that dominates the scene and the way it's complemented by the warmth of the sunset. The ideally placed cruise ship adds a neat focal point, and crucially it's sharp.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** The largest vessels that sail our seas are ships. Larger than boats (a boat being, by one definition, small enough to be carried on a ship) they haul our cargo, protect our territories, carry sightseers from luxury port to luxury port, and much more besides. Images of the whole or any part of a ship, inside or out, are welcomed, and let’s not worry too much about where the crossover between boat and ship occurs, but the emphasis in this contest is certainly on larger vessels.
This scene is compelling enough but when seen at night it just comes alive. It's an expertly balanced exposure and suitably framed by the crop. When shooting as darkness falls there's a short window of opportunity before the contrast becomes too great causing highlights to become burnt out and the loss of detail in darker areas.
This is a rather splendid image! It has symmetry, composition, contrast, framing, timing, and an obvious focal point. The seats do a nice job leading the eye towards the funnel where of course the brightly coloured woman catches the eye . I particularly like the low angle of the camera as it accentuates the leading lines and frames the subject at the top and bottom.
