Silhouettes with Bokeh Background

This capture immediately lept into my top ten. So much to love here. The silhouette leaves just enough exposure to let us know we are hanging with a puffin. The universally orange, soft bokeh of the background sits in perfect compliment to the silhouette. Then there's the active leap across the terrain, with just enough light informing the textures of the earth, as orange sunlight leaks down into the dark silhouettes. A beautiful capture that also beautifully displays the contest description.

Mostly, I love how fitting this capture is to the contest description, capturing a true silhouette while displaying an entire background of perfect circular, colored bokeh.. Beyond that the symmetry and color, set against the silhouette is beautifully executed. The cleaness of lines and curves here is also incredibly appealing to the eye. The title helps drive home both the royal relationships of the game itself and eliciting any family relationship with the overlapping colors in the background impying diversity and acceptance. I love it.

This capture thrills me for several reasons. The clean, sharp silhouette of this bird and the softer, out of focus branches in just the right places, against a sea of true, circular bokeh makes for an atmospheric, dynamic story. It invites you into the scene, and that is a quality we all strive for in our captures. The thistly thorny nature of the flora play beautifully against the soft circular bokeh, and the choice to leave the skylike black at the top of the capture gives another layer of depth and story.

There is a LOT to like here. Story is key in imagery, especially human portraits. This has a perfect profile silhouette, great lines, understated bokeh, the sunset overlapping the subject and just touching the line of the base of the capture. Despite it being a silhouette the expression is notable and the composition here is perfect. It elicits feeling and is a stunning capture, .

I love this capture. The motion and almost static, frenetic feeling that is elicited is palpable. This specific texture in bokeh is almost cellular. The spiked, rounded silhouetted thistle almost blending into the bokeh is pleasing to the eye. The choice to tell this story in monochrome was also very wise. So much motion in what could easily have been a still , uninteresting capture.
