This photograph, a beautiful example of minimalism, is made visually compelling through a series of strong technical choices. The aperture of f8 keeps everything crisp, allowing to enjoy the smooth texture of the snow and the lines within. The colour scheme is subtle and cohesive, dominated by cool whites and soft greys that enhance the sense of silence and isolation that this image conveys so well. Compositionally, the placement of the building in the upper third part of the frame creates a visually striking balance between subject and negative space. This a unique and carefully crafted image that brings together light, shadow, texture and space in a clean and memorable way.
This photograph captures the peace and beauty of a winter landscape with remarkable technical finesse. The chosen aperture of f9 delivers a generous depth of field that keeps both the foreground rocks and the distant mountains crisp and well-defined. The colour scheme is especially striking: the muted whites and greys of the snow and sky allow the small red building to stand out as a bold focal point. The water and rock formation naturally lead the eye towards the small building, giving purpose to the composition, whilst the overall sharpness contrasts beautifully with the soft water from the long exposure. This image captures a beautifully balanced scene that brings together colour, texture, and atmosphere in a way that feels calm, complete, and thoroughly compelling.
This photograph is a striking example of how thoughtful composition and technical finesse can elevate a scene into something memorable. The wide aperture creates a pleasing depth of field, keeping the church crisp while subtly softening the surrounding gravestones. The cool teal of the northern lights contrast beautifully with the warm tones of the red roof, giving the colour scheme both balance and drama, while the long exposure gives the sky an ethereal texture and painterly effect. This nighttime scene is a unique, atmospheric capture of small buildings, able to instil a sense of peace and wonder in the viewer.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Big, iconic architecture might get all the headlines, but back in the real world the majority of buildings being built are much smaller, and the efforts of the architects and construction firms responsible are often unsung. But all their skills are in evidence when a building on a small scale successfully achieves everything required of its larger cousin, just within a reduced volume. And as questions of energy usage, land availability and construction costs become ever more important, smaller buildings seem to provide a lot of the answers. Acceptable images can be of any small building, from a house, to a folly, to public buildings and beyond, and can be buildings of any age. Both exterior and interior shots wlecomed.
