This is a great and spontaneous-looking capture with very strong visual appeal. It's not just the costume, colourful and shiny, but the entire colour scheme that makes this image as vibrant as it is. The rich reds and reflective gold of the costume are, in fact, enhanced by the blue skies and the purple hues in the background.
The golden light, hitting the subject straight on, further enhances the richness of the tones, creating a sense of warmth and summer vibes together with the blue skies and palm trees in the background (blurred just enough not to result distracting).
This is a beautiful portrait that most definitely deserves recognition. Well done!
I like how 'reversed' this shot is, with the audience becoming the main subject, and the event's main subject - the girl - becoming secondary, her expression hidden. We appreciate the audience's smiles whilst wondering (with a smile ourselves) what the girl's expression must be. It's a unique image that evokes a sense of innocence and happiness and leaves the viewer curious and uplifted.
Technically, I love how the lighting hits the girl's silhouette, making her stand out and setting her apart from the sea of people in front of her.
This is great shot that not only features a smile, but makes us smile, too. Well done!
This is a fantastic image that thoroughly deserves first place. This photograph shows extremely well thought-out composition. The subjects' position, well spaced out around the female subject, with their hands conveying towards the centre of the frame, is harmonious, perfectly framing the female subject in the middle. The photographer here was either able to capture the perfect unposed moment, or was very talented in directing the subjects to obtain this very result.
The light (shining brighter on the lady) and everyone's low glances (but her), further enhance the focus on the female subject. With her eccentric styling and joyous expression, she is the star of the shot, effectively conveying dynamism and happiness to the viewer. This shot is truly one of a kind and a pleasure to look at. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** What do we so often say when we point a camera at people? “Smile! Say cheese!” But not always with the most natural-looking results! Capturing those genuine, disarmed and unaware smiles is a skill learned. It comes from rapport, from creating the right atmosphere, saying the right thing, or from blending in, being quick, unnoticed. The results are worth it - smiles are infectious and can make a picture.
