A very bold picture with the train looming up at us, it feels like I'm tied to the tracks like in an old movie trying to get away before it runs me over. The red paint on the train balances really nicely with the red sky and when I read this was a composite, I was very impressed how well it had been done.
This is a lovely, cinematic image of steam trains and a silhouette of the driver (I'm assuming). The atmosphere created by backlighting through the smoke to create the silhouette and the light glinting off the metal give it a lovely feel. There is just enough detail in the shadow areas to read the number of the train and to make my eye look closely at all the details.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Twisting smoke and bellowing steam can bring wonderful atmosphere to a scene, create fascinating and ethereal forms for our compositions, and generally add a lovely random element to an image. For the avoidance of doubt, this ranked contest is not for images of fog, mist and clouds.
