Snow

This photo stood out to me in its beautiful simplicity. I'd not heard of the Ptarmigan before, and the plain white backdrop of the image really allows me to focus on the unique characteristics of the bird. The snow is so pristine that it almost looks like the photo was taken in a studio. Great job!

Meet the expert judge

This is such a striking image with multiple layers of meaning. I appreciate that you waited for the figure to walk directly beneath the writing. Great moment, tonal contrast, and framing. I also appreciate the slightly grainy, textured feel the photograph has to it, which helps give the viewer a sense of the city environment.

I really enjoy the ambiguity of this photograph. Framing and lighting make the image pleasing to look at, and at the same time, create a sense of uncertainty and anticipation. It's unclear where the figure is headed or what waits in the snow-covered bramble. It reminds me a little bit of a Crewdson film still. Nicely done!
