Brief

In this Canon-only contest, we want to see your best sports shots! Whether it’s a shot of a local football match or one from the sidelines of a stadium for a Premier League final, we want to see your best action sports shots. If you have kids or grandchildren you could even practice on them playing sports in the garden or at a local park. A telephoto lens can be beneficial for getting tight frame-filling shots of the action, such as a scoring a goal, passing a ball or batting away a shuttlecock. That said, if you don't have a zoom lens you can get creative with close-ups like the shadows cast by the strings of a tennis racket or intricate threading of a cricket ball - these types of shots work wonderfully well too. Get creative with the brief - we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

See the 'Brief in detail' tab for more information!

The winner will receive a Manfrotto PIXI EVO miniature tripod worth £52.95. The judge's top ten images will also feature in a future issue of PhotoPlus magazine.

The brief in detail

In this Canon-only contest, we want to see what shots you can take using the widest aperture on your lenses. A wide open aperture is the lowest f/-setting on your lens such as f/3.5 on a kit lens, or even wider like f/2.8, f/1.8 or f/1.4 on other more specialist optics, and when open wide will flood your sensor with light. Shooting wide-open also has the added benefit of making it very easy to blur backgrounds with a shallow depth-of-field so we want to see you using them to diffuse the backgrounds of your portraits into a pleasing blur, or opening wide to achieve a rapid shutter speed for to capture action shots or even opening the aperture up to suck in as much light as possible in dimly lit low-light scenes like astrophotography.

DO: Ensure your photo was taken on a Canon camera. Have EXIF data in your photo (or supply the camera settings in the info section). Provide a title for your photo. Write a description of the photo you're entering of at least 50 words to give us the background of what the image is of and how it was taken. A little context can go a long way! Check your photo has a resolution of at least 3000 pixels on the longest edge of the photo as we will be printing our top picks in PhotoPlus: the Canon magazine.

DO NOT: Have a watermark on your photograph. Supply images taken on camera systems other than Canon. Submit low-resolution pics

Prize details

The winner will receive a Manfrotto PIXI EVO miniature tripod worth £52.95. Compatible with lightweight DSLRs and mirrorless cameras the PIXI EVO can handle up to 2.5kg of equipment and has two leg angles for extra stability on uneven ground. It's ideal for photographers who love to travel light or even looking for a nifty option to mount your flashguns off-camera. The judge's top ten images will also feature in a future issue of PhotoPlus magazine.

How it works

Every photo submitted will be available for the crowd to rate once the submissions period has ended. You can see all the images uploaded to a contest, but will need to rate them to see how they’re ranked once the rating period begins.

Some contests on Photocrowd also have a judge. After the submission period closes the judge chooses their favourite images and writes some image reviews. The crowd and judge results will be announced on the same day.
