This image feels like it's telling a story. Have they been found like this in their natural environment or placed like this? The lighting and composition all add up to an engaging image creating a sense of mystery.

It certainly demonstrates how effective natural light can be and on this occasion bringing a timeless quality..

A well considered still life taking into account the technicalities. The black & white treatment and harsh shadows remind me of the wonderful still life work of André Kertész. A strong graphic image through an experimental use of light and I love the needle shadow!

A classically lit, well composed image where the subdued colours of the petals sit beautifully against the contrasting tones of the dish. These two elements, combined with an overhead composition make this a classic still life. I feel this would make a successful print.

This image demonstrates great use of composition, lighting & colour giving a sense of control and simplicity. A strong image that struck me from the start of the judging process. A good example of how unrelated objects can sit well together in a frame. Well done!

Congratulations on your first attempt with the tricky subject of food photography! I agree with you that its good to show off a single item in all their glory. You could try adding some fresh herbs next time to bring some more colour in to it. The white dish can tend to make things look a little flat if not using lighting so you could try a couple of things here - place next to a window if thats accessible for you so the dish is lit from one side creating some mood and texture. Also you could try laying the meat on a wooden board/surface to add some texture too. I hope you continue to shoot more food items as it can be great fun to experiment with while you learn on the way.
