The image title, “life imitates art,” is definitely true; so is the opposite: art is derived from life. Great job waiting for the human moment and gesture here that speak to the mural in the background. I appreciate the composition and colors, as well. Well done!

Such a great moment! I love how bundled up and curious the children are here (and I find myself curious, as well, having never collected tree sap). The look of anticipation on the face of the child on the right is priceless. Nice composition, too. Well done!

Wonderful attention to color here and the humor it creates. The red and white of the man’s head covering mirror the red and white of the “sale” signs in the window behind him. Life, art, and commerce are always in dialogue. Nice emphasis on gesture and use of framing, as well. Great job!

Great attention to lighting and detail here! I love how the smoke from the cart is illuminated by shafts of light, and how a vendor’s face is framed by the cart window. The image overall has a lovely textured, gritty feeling to it - it really feels like New York City. Well done!

This is fun! Wonderful attention to lighting here, and way to use it to emphasize interaction. I love how the shaft of warm light highlights the breath/conversation of both Santas and starts to illuminate their suits and even some of the background, as well. I’m curious to know who and where they are. Great job!

Wonderful image. I love how you’ve captured a very human, relatable scene – smoking, socializing, and reading the newspaper – in the midst of a formal cultural event and festival. The gestures of the men in the image speak volumes, and the colors are striking, as well. Great job!

Wow, what a face. Great use of shallow depth of field here to really isolate the photo subject. Even though he’s in the middle of a busy street, this photo feels intimate and puts the viewer into conversation with him. He looks as though he has a lot on his mind. I’d be curious to know if you were shooting with a remote, or if you were shooting with long glass from somewhat far away? Well done!

What a great scene – I can almost hear the music! I really appreciate the composition, especially the way you’ve filled the entire frame with information, and the ironic appearance of the “Church Quiet Zone” sign on the righthand side of the image. I didn’t notice it the first time around, but it definitely caught my eye upon review. Too funny! Well done.

Great image! The silhouettes and contrast here are particularly effective; they definitely create a fun and eerie Halloween scene. When I first came across this image, my eye went immediately to the pointy witch’s hat. So glad you noticed and captured this detail. Well done!

What an ominous, compelling scene. I love the way this image blurs some of the lines between nature and industry - the way the power plant emissions fade into the cloud cover, for instance. The cement cubes in the foreground, which basically look like manmade boulders, are also striking. The bleak color palette is really effective, too. Great job!.

Great image! The content is striking to me: I have never seen sunflowers pulled by motorcycle before and enjoyed reading the caption to learn more about plant transportation for the Tet holiday. I particularly appreciate the use of panning here and the vibrant colors within the frame, both of which help call attention to the unique transportation process. Well done!

Love the framing here and the juxtaposition it creates between the fancy car and the piles of garbage. The contrast between the light sheen of the garbage bags and the dark paint color of the car is nice, as well. I can almost smell the stench of the trash. It is so strange and humorous that New York City disposes of garbage this way.

This is such a fun image! I love how you’ve managed to integrate the mural/wall art into someone’s gesture. Indeed, it looks like the woman here is holding the giant cluster of colorful balloons. Great job waiting for and composing the right moment.

What a lovely human moment. Great job capturing the interaction between the three Muslim women and the relatable gestures of joy and kindness. The contrast between the dark colors of the niqabs and the verdant backdrop also makes for a particularly striking image. Well done!

This is a new one for me - I had never heard of a zombie dance! Great use of lighting and color here; I love the warmth you capture in this nighttime scene. I also appreciate that you’ve used a slower shutter speed to capture the motion of the dancers, and that you’ve filled the frame. The flowers in the foreground are a nice touch. Well done!
