Street Photography At Night

September 2021

Now, this is an image you don't see every day and WOW it really is nice. The biggest things for me have to be the subject, scene and colours. The uprights are stunning and I can see there has been some careful consideration for the final shooting position. Exposure wise for such a complex image is absolute on the mark. Top stuff

It said a good image should catch your attention and this one did just that. At 1st I thought it was a scan of an old 35mm shot, but once I had started to look and follow the road along the shot into where the people were standing I started to see it was more recent. The choice of black and white for the image works well and you don't even notice the grain, it blends in with the aesthetic of the scene. It's not too often that you are sitting there looking at a photo and you can imagine yourself standing there in the scene, I love it when that happens. Thank you for sharing it and congratulations

While looking through the images this shot just caught my eye with its silhouettes and me wanting to immediately know what the group was up to. A really great effort with the balance of light in the centre of the image is not too overpowering, thus your eye is not pulled into the centre meaning you do notice the rest of the subjects of the image.

There I was, just looking at the bottom of the bus appreciating how well exposed the shot was plus how well-positioned the bus windows are, then ban... I noticed the guy on the top floor of the bus, it still makes me laugh each time I look at it while deciding what position it got. Composition wise I think it all works, content-wise with the other passengers, I think this works and makes the image too. I like the guy looking to his right and the guy standing up too, they really add to the shot... Really well captured and keep shooting images like these, I love them

A really well-balanced shot that has great flow through it, the way the light falls from left to right along with the glassy reflection on the water is the type of shot I am always on the hunt for. I like the consideration to leave out the streetlight from the shot as I guess you saw it would have been overpowering. The only thing I would change and this is just my opinion is raining the shadows a tiny bit in the bottom right and losing the watermark, or perhaps tone the watermark down a bit as the whites on that are a bit too bright for that corner. The final presentation is everything

This shot I just loved due to the cool tones and amount of detail you have managed to capture as well, you feel the wetness in the image due to seeing every water droplet in the image. I am still 50/50 on the person who is blocking the stairs. I like it but at the same time I want to see the stairs, but if I can see down the stairs I would rather the void was filled with a person. I love the fact I have questions about an image and wish I had been there shooting this. Really great work

A really great attempt of a shot that has the basis of being so much better, you certainly have the eye for a decent shot. The only thing I would change is to tighten up the aperture a little, the f4.5 that was used has left Big Ben a tad out of focus and it would have been amazing to have seen the details that it contains. The colours you have preserved are great though, keep up the experimenting and it will all fall into place.

I always love a shot that you have to look at a bit so you can really suss out what it is, this is definitely up there with them. I like the black and white finish along with the curve of the shot, my only criticism is that you can see something coming in from the bottom of the frame and I just found that a tad distracting, I would either like to see more or none of that.

Another really cool shot that while working through all the image stood out well, the colours and detail are great, but the only thing that I feel help it back is the left-hand side feels a little cramped and it is as if there needs to be a little breathing space of more light on the subjects on that side

This shot I just could not decide if it was top 10 or not, unfortunately for you, it just did not make it due to the intensity of the light at the top middle of the frame, I love the subject and surrounding but the light is a tad on the hot side, so pulling the eye away, but due to the subject matter, you have done really really well with this.

This is another shot from the massive selection that just stood out, I love the scene, the feeling of movement with the police horse and the car on the crossing, mixed in with a well-exposed shot that you can see is done well via the neon signs and screens, I can just imagine the smile on your face when you 1st saw this in the back of the camera. A shot worthy of being on any wall of those who love New York.

As soon as I saw this shot I knew it was instantly in my top 10, it did stand out from the other images and for that reason is why it is here. A tricky one to bag, but you have done it well. The only things I would watch and I apologize if this was your intention, but there is a slight cast to the shot that could be corrected and the highlights are a tad high in some spots, but I was not there to know what you saw and shot nor what you have to edit with. Even with those considerations, I wish this was something I had shot

Our streets at night can range from a heaving city intersection, aglow with neon and partygoers falling over each other, to a near-deserted lamplit street with a solitary figure heading home from a late night at the office. It can take courage enough to capture life on the street, but especially so after dark, when a photographer’s presence may unsettle subjects more. The results, though, have an atmosphere all of their own, and document the way we live our lives after the sun goes down.

This image stood out for me due to its colour and details, 2 really good things about the shot, to help a little bit with the shot, try opening up the aperture a tad and keep the shutter speed to a max of I believe it to be 17 secs to avoid the stars starting to blur as well. Don't be afraid to up the ISO too as this will help too. Altogether though I hope you are really pleased with this image

An absolute corker of a shot and it makes me feel cold and jealous that we never see snow like that.. White balance is spot on, the focus is spot on and there are no visible watermarks on the lens either. What's more, is the depth of the shot as you try to look to the right of the building on the left at the person(s) on the street.
