This engaging and penetrating portrait reveals a face that I'm sure has many stories to tell. Homelessness is a difficult subject to approach and all too often the homeless can be exploited by photographers. I don't sense that in this case, and it's encouraging to see that the photographer appears to have found out and titled the image with the subject's name, Georges. This important act of respect is surprisingly rare. Well done!
A crisp, clean and perfectly executed street portrait. There were a lot of similar portraits in this competition, however, this one stood out. Perhaps most notable was the exquisite colour palette - which is a delight. This combined with the fantastic lighting and connection with the object make it a winner!
There is a wonderful arrangement of line, shape, colour and texture, the elements come together harmoniously in a fleeting moment. The pinks and yellows play off each other exquisitely and the relationship of the animal and two children creates a surreal twist that's loaded with implied narratives. The keenly observed shadows add to the vibe.
I find this a really intriguing image. It is loaded with mystery and implied narrative. The low angle of view and direct eye contact give the image a strange intensity. And the composition, with the subject positioned between two slick cars, is innovative and inspired. Technically the lighting, tonality and the crisp, clean black and white treatment have been expertly handled.
I love the way the flash has picked up the raindrops to produce beautiful circular dots. This uniquely photographic way of recording rain gives the image a magical vibe that is in conflict with the apparent struggle of the main subject who appears to be battling the elements searching for shelter. Excellent work!
There is visceral energy to this striking, bold, confident and gritty street portrait. The hard contrast with deep, rich shadows is raw. and engaging The composition with the subject artfully positioned in a central square created by the concrete pillars is excellent. But it is the turn of the head and the eye contact that makes this so powerful. Great work.
I love the energy in this bold and confident image. The sense of motion has been expertly captured with what looks like a cunning mix of flash and slow shutter speed. The flaming red colour pallette feels vibrant and energised. The subject holding and contemplating the wing mirror adds to the narrative.

Street portraits are fascinating peeks into the worlds of those who we pass every day as we go about our business. We’re defining a street portrait as an outdoor portrait in a built environment where the subject knows you are photographing them. You may or may not know the subject. In terms of stepping outside your comfort zone, approaching a stranger and asking if you can take their picture can be a big challenge for many. The sense of satisfaction and achievement that can spring from this is great, so if you’ve not done it before then now’s your chance.
I'm not quite sure how "discreet" your shot is as it looks like you've been rumbled. However, it is a very good photograph and I love the natural look on the subject's face. Getting someone to 'act' this would be very difficult. The vibe of the restaurant with the lighting, mono conversion and gritty grain feels like a scene from a movie.
