The boy has a great smile that feels infectious. To improve the shot I would have got down lower with the composition and given the bike in the foreground a bit more breathing space. Bringing out the shadows would help and you could even try converting to monochrome as there is lots of textures in the scene.

This is a magical scene that is full of atmosphere and wonder. You almost feel like a child at Christmas when you look at the glistening snow! The photographer has done a wonderful job exposing for the snow meaning you can see every last detail. Perfect!

This is a very clever composition, that I can see has been framed up in the camera beforehand in preparation for someone interesting coming along - and they did! The striding yellow trousers work wonders and the timing that shows them breaking across the white and orange zones is impeccable. Great shot.

Meet the expert judge

A nice piece of abstract humour here that is as compelling as a hall of funny mirrors. Intentionally or not, the slightly wonky uprights add to the sense of visual chaos that makes the people will little legs and split bodies even funnier. Well seen and great timing.

It's the light and how well it has been exposed that wins this picture a place in the top three. What an amazing three dimensional sense we get from the deep shadows and well controlled highlights, so that we can feel we are there ourselves. It's a beautiful picture.
