The outright winner because it combines perfectly, all the essential elements that all great images have - Lighting, composition, mood and content. There's a lot going on in this picture, and it really captures the scene of a busy nighttime metropolis beautifully. The varied light sources throwing up both harsh, dramatically lit subjects as well as softer moodier lit backdrops throughout the frame, makes it a complex, sophisticated image;. telling us what it's like living a 24hr megacity like Kolkata. I love the way the man on the train on the left is adding to the strong composition by leaning into the the centre of the photograph where the main light source and the activity around it is grabbing our attention,. The kind of Image that makes you want to study it for a long time because there is so much in it. .

The quintessential nighttime metropolis picture. Beautifully lit, that holds your attention and makes you want to feast your eyes on it, studying every little part of the image.. I love the way the highway snakes into the frame from bottom right, until it gets to the cluster of skyscrapers on the horizon - made all the more dramatic by the moody night sky directly above them. A strong and brilliant image.

A good image here, that has an event played out in front of you that only makes the strong visual element to it, even stronger. Nicely composed by an array of umbrellas and people in around the car - all lit lit in a very striking and interesting way. The photograph not just gives you a nicely lit nighttime scene, but shows you what people get up to in a city like Tokyo. A wonderfully striking and entertaining image.

A wonderful image, not least, because it manages to be both very striking and dynamic, but at the same time moody and evocative, with the strong colours making the image really capture the eye. The photographer has created A wonderfully visual, almost cinematic image. They have made sure to have a central figure in the frame to hold the attention; bathed in a foggy light with swirling figures and activity all around., and in the middle and background, a colourful urban montage.. Big credit goes to this photographer who also knows to slow the shutter speed right down, in order to catch the steam in such a way as to make it swirl around the pavement and sky like a fog; at the same time keeping a strong depth of field in order to keep as much of the rest of the elements in the picture as sharp as possible. A strikingly cinematic image.

A strong image. I love the way the photographer has combined the starry night sky with the road going nowhere, light only by the headlamps of the car, along with the strong silhouette of rock face and the distance landscape. However, I can't help feeling how much stronger the image would be if it was framed horizontally in order to further isolate the moodily-lit road within the dark dramatic landscape under the starry sky. Also, in colour you would not have lost the mood, as the dark landscape would still be there, but the milky way seen in the sky would have brought this wonderful picture to life. A brilliantly thought-out photograph, though. Well done.

A great image, and in the great tradition of classic street photography. It gives you a wonderful sense of place and time - a photograph full of information, but also very artistic.. Strong composition married with mood and light. The pallet of colours here is very interesting, with the blue in the middle of the frame emphasising the cold streets of Tokyo, The dark, monotone figures isolated across the frame, all going in their own directions on a carpet of white; each unaware of the other, giving us a sense of what life is like in a mega city where there is so much happening, but where lives are at the same time dislocated.
