Introducing some intentional camera movement in this image, has turned what has the potential to be a featureless snap of the english countryside into a dreamy land which draws us in. The use of muted colours and restrictive palette of greens and blues also affect the feeling of a storm brewing over the rolling fields.
Golden sunset light catches one side of this mountain ridge, which simultaneously leads the eye in to the figure. As mountains fade out into the distance the ridges are all rim-lit with the lowering sun, and we are reminded of the vast scale of the environment as it seems to carry on indefinitely into the distance.
Converting this to black and white allows viewers to focus on the texture of the huge cumulus cloud that dominates the centre of the frame. There's also a mimicry in the upper and lower halves of the frame. In the upper half the blackness of the sky hangs above the highly textured white cloud, and in the lower half that repeats with the black mountains and white sand.
A creative take on the Golden Gate Bridge sees the side-lit bridge naturally framed by the twisting tree trunks that flank it either side. A time-stack composite (multiple images taken over time and blended in software) captures the sharp shadows that cut through the scene earlier in the evening whilst retaining the vibrant hues in the sky consummate with later sunset light.
The Rubjerg Knude lighthouse is 118 years old and the dusty, flakey exterior in this photograph demonstrates well that it has been heavily weathered. The frame is filled with the rippling sand, visually representing the strong movement of wind that surely passes over this area of Denmark. Despite shooting directly into the sun, the photographer has revealed great detail in the shadows for a superb shot.
