First of all congratulations on your top 10 placement and for entering such a great image into this competition. It wasn’t an easy decision to pick out the top 10, with some really great work being submitted for judging, however this image stood out straight away to me during selection.
A love it or hate it image, always the challenge with minimalist images. In this case I love it. I love the simplicity, the shapes in the sand and the prominent whisper of grass. There’s a lot of story and imagination here, that showcases the strength of survival. An image that makes you stop and think, even though the majority would of walked past and not even photographed.

I love everything about this image, the composition, the simplicity, the story telling and the focus on the subject all depicting the competition brief so very well. The group of penguins just pop out of the image with little to no distractions, allowing you to focus on the prime message of the image so easily.

A very brave image. Traditional nature photographers want to see the subject closer in the frame, this proves that inclusion of environment and the story telling is key. The smaller subjects in the frame show the harsh enduring environment and the struggles to travel so very well. The harsh environment is depicted so very well.

I love these snow blizzard shots, and can appreciate the hard work and dedication to go out, find and capture these beautiful animals. You’ve caught such a beautiful example of the harsh environment and survival so very well and I applaud you for it.

This image certainly scores 10/10 for drama, a real sense of fight for life and survival. One of those images caught in the right place at the right time, but the photography skills to back up the capture in the first place. I love the subtle colours, simple composition and lack of any distracting elements allowing you to really focus on the event in front of you. Did the penguin live, did he escape, who knows...

The harsh environment this poor Arctic fox has to endure is so well told through this amazing image it delivers a very compelling story led tale. I absolutely love the quality, environment and story you’ve portrayed here, well done!

There were many tree images submitted that made it into the commends, images with better composition and stronger colours than this. However there’s a certain quality to this mono image that made it pop and stand out from the rest. I love the textures and tones, backed by a real sense of harsh environment. I like the leading 3 trees that take you through the image too.

"Survival of the fittest" is a phrase that originated from Darwinian evolutionary theory as a way of describing the mechanism of natural selection. I want you to take this statement in a photographical sense, portraying earth's natural survivors and the strength of a particular species. Any context, any subject and photographic interpretation or presentation of the theme is acceptable.
