Wow! What a wonderful building! I'm a fan of a lot of things and old wooden houses that have character in abundance are one of them. I think this shot works very well head-on in black and white and I like the contrast but, admittedly, I would have been interested to have seen it in colour. Many thanks for entering.

Admittedly I did a double take when I first saw this image. Yet another fine example I feel of just what can be done with wood. I like the processing, sharpness and the contrast of the lines which blend perfectly with the 'humps'.. Again - and it's not a criticism - another image that I would have been interested to have seen in colour but I don't think the B&W conversion lessens the quality of the image at all in that respect. Many thanks for entering.

As I have said before, there are some very good shots out there that have that extra little something that sets them apart from the rest. In my opinion it is of course the red petals in between the gaps in the wood, which contrast wonderfully with the grainy monotone of the wood itself. Another simple but effective shot. I'm glad you noticed it and many thanks for entering.

A nicely exposed shot which appears to have had minimal processing. It's simple, pleasing to the eye, and shows a nice range of contrast., between the different coloured wood. I particularly like the beams of light that occupy the lower left hand corner - this element sets the whole image off rather nicely. Many thanks for entering.

What can I say about this image that is not obvious to all that see it? I'm a fan of the simple, thoughtful shot and this picture falls into that bracket. There is an evident warmth to the wood here but - and this is the main point for me - it's a shot that most of us just would not consider taking but I'm glad you did as I think it works very well. Many thanks for entering.

Wood is made for carving right? I'm a big fan of old graffiti, especially that from our wartime years which I have seen a lot of. What's the story here? Who carved it and why? OK, for some it might not be that oh-so-perfect picture in terms of sharpness or focus, but it's what it represents that is more important - a relic of our bygone years. Many thanks for entering.

Another image that is simple in it's composition but very effective. I love the warmth and colour of the bamboo and the fact you have used a narrow depth of field which begins with the piece of bamboo to the right of the frame. I also love the contrast of the dark background which harmonises perfectly with the warm tones of the bamboo itself. Many thanks for entering.

For this contest I want to see images that convey the sheer beauty of wood. Such images can come in all sorts of guises, from the close-up detailed shot to the picture that will demonstrate not only the beauty of wood but how this wonderful material has been harnessed and utilised by man over the years. That's the brief, nothing complicated....let's see what you come up with. The best of luck.

I'm not quite sure what the structure here is. Is it a roof? A fence? What i like about this picture are the many different lengths and contrasting shades of the colour of the wood. Again, I think it's a simple shot that stands out from the norm. OK, so perhaps it would have benefitted from a little processing to further enhance the warmth and contrast of the wood but I like it. Many thanks for entering.
