The coast

Who hasn't set off for a day out at the beach only to arrive to this exact scene.. This photograph takes me back to my own childhood full of expectations for the day ahead only to be dashed as we sit in the car watching the waves go up and down whilst eating damp candyfloss in the back seat of the car. The monochromatic colors adds to the drabness as do the water droplets on the window screen. The car we look at is perfect for a sense of nostalgia in this well constructed and captured photograph. Really well done. It brings a smile to my face when I look at this photograph.

The imperfect painted red toenails work really well against the whiteness of the fluffy sand. This selfie of sorts is fun and symbolic of the classic beach details we often glimpse whilst in our own deck chair. This simple image is very well framed and the exposure is excellent. The positioning of the foot is perfect and reminds us of what it feels like to walk on to warm sand in our bare feet. A real wish you were here moment and the abstract nature of the image fits in perfectly with the postcard traditions. Really well done. This image did stand out from the other entries.

This stunning image really stood out for the quality of the formal arrangements to the technical excellence evidenced in the photograph. The low camera angle makes the most of the foreground surface and the relative shallow depth of field gives a softness to the beach until our eye is taken to the sole individual beautifully placed in the top left corner which balances the dark space as we then go the the right of the frame. We get a sense of scale from the silhouetted figure and this offers up a potential psychological reading of this well crafted image. Really beautiful and haunting. Stunning capture.
