The detail and texture in this beautifully shot image, along with the different tones of brown make a wonderfully pleasing picture. The processing of the image with the contrast and light are perfectly balanced. This has ticked all the boxes regarding the contest and the colour brown, a well deserved winner.

Brown is a colour that recurs throughout life and nature with distinct regularity. The colour, and its many shades, represent a range of emotions and settings that can lend themselves to some truly extraordinary compositions. Earthy, golden, creamy, sandy – the world is full of 'Brown', so go out there and get your photography on.
The photographer has certainly achieved the objective of old time Jazz musician feel and focussing tight on the face of the trumpet player with the high ISO giving it a grainy film mood has contributed to the atmosphere of this image. A compromise between noise reduction and sharpening is always a necessary and difficult task in low light images but if you are a lover of grainy film effect then this image fits the bill. I think the image would probably convert to black and white really well and not affect the mood in any way. Well done for a great image and the music and event must have been a great place to take your camera for the day.
This is a wonderful abstract image with the brown spiral wooden stairs leading the eye to the blue light globes at the top. I like the way the photographer has expertly arranged the globes to be partially visible around the centre light. The shapes and light have created a very eye catching image with the only issue being the shadow line centre right. It does not spoil the image at all but is a necessary evil when dealing with artificial light in these situations. This image has a well deserved top ten placing and is a beautiful image indeed.

This is an excellent moment captured of the butterfly on the flowers, He is nice and sharp for a small insect and is a very difficult subject to capture due to the short time they spend on each stop off and the photographer has managed it beautifully. The only issue is the flowers, red is a dominant colour and can take the focus away from the main subject. It is still a fine image of nature at its best.
