Great shot. I am a big fan of shadows and this is a really interesting photo. The highlights in the cages help to separate them from the shadows behind. Without it the image would probably have become too confusing. Personally I would have cropped the top of the picture just below the bases of those top cages as the darkness of them does draw the eye away from the rest of the frame.

A lot of fantastic kingfisher photographs were entered into this competition but this one really stood out for me. It is such a decisive moment that you have captured beautifully. Pin sharp, perfect choice of shutter speed and the moss on the branch adds the extra bit of texture and interest to the frame. Very, very well done.

This image just feels like it is part of a story. I can imagine it on the front cover of a novel. It has a really lovely atmosphere. All the leading lines in the frame take your eye to the lone figure walking along the path. Beautiful lighting. Perfect composition. Great shot. Well done

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** We’re keeping it dialled into one colour for this contest, and it’s orange! Maybe you’ve had some still life fun with the eponymous fruit; you hung out at Dutch Corner when the Tour de France peloton was tackling Alpe d’Huez; or you’ve got garden borders dripping with Californian poppies. Whatever you’ve been shooting, we can’t wait to see the vibrant carpet of orange images brought together by this, one of our favourite contest themes.
