Lines & Parallels. The geometry of this shot is so beautiful. If the photographer arranged this, it is really impressive. Everything is a littly off & yet perfectly arranged. I like the arm peeking into the foreground. The line of the counter following the line of the chairs. The geometric lines on the wall echoing the geomtric style of the chairs. Niiice!
The colours here are amazing!!! This image was so close to being in the top ten! I super like how the wall, outfit & table cloth are matchy. The aspect which other's in the top ten had was a stronger story line. Whilst greatly appreciating the randomness & colourful creativity - I didn't quite connect with what is happening. Please come back & show us some more work!
This is such a fun image! Who doesn't resonate with spaghetti?! I can almost feel the tomato sauce on my own face when I look at this image. I love all the items in the background - the family photos, clock, bookshelf items & sofa all let the viewer into the family home nicely. The pigtails & tilt of the girls head re framed very well with the pillar & corner sofa. Personally, I like the movement blur on the spaghetti, adding to the story of eating quickly. The one aspect I'd potentially rethink for next time is the items on the corner sofa in the background - perhaps slightly distracting. Nice expression saying how this little one doesn't have time for anything other than spilling tomato sauce right now :) Also like the parallel of messy hair & messy eating.
Love the expression of the fox here! It's rare to catch beautiful expressions like this! I'd be tempted to shoot with a slightly wider aperture with animals as they can move quickly & the focus is on the nose rather than the eyes - although somehow this feels nice in this shot. I'd be tempted to lose the vignette, as it seems a bit distracting from the expression & with such an intense blur doesn't seem needed. Super nice!
I love everything about this shot. The colours, juxtaposition & how the sea merges into the sky. The smoothness of the sea & sky against the angles of the pier. Just beautiful. It gives me 'I want to continue looking lost in the image' feels. There's a dream like quality which resonates well in viewing. A fantastic creation.
That pencil takes me straight back to childhood! The colour palette here is sublime, an aspect I greatly appreciate as a photographer. The yellow in the pencil ties in together with the orange tunic & door frame. The black on the pencil with the girl's hair. With a splash of magenta on the scarf as a contrast. Tells the story of s studious girl keen to learn well. Lovely expression which demonstrates excellent communication between subject & photographer. The filmic feel in this shot also gives a journey back in time &/or to a land far away. Excellent job.
A dream-like image reminding the viewer how delicate life can be. The light highlighting the fog is just stunning. Will the stags stay? Two have clocked us as he viewer looking into their world. I'd be temped to ever so slightly darken the front stag's antler's slightly to separate from the rest. Maybe extend out the background either side to create a 16:9. The colours are really lovely & the detail of the ferns is very nice here. It's a really wonderful image & must've taken many hours /days if not weeks of work for the opportunity to present. Nice job.
I had a rather tough time choosing a top flower on a black background. Many, many excellent entries in this category. I'm pleased to say - this is the one. The aspect which swung it for this particular image over the others is the balance & contrast that the blue/purple hues bring to the image against the orange. A wonderful work of art & excellently executed. Congratulations.
Textures & Shapes, Shadows & highlights. Mistiness & Clarity. Points & Curves. Whites into orangey browns back into whites. Heights & ground zero. Ice & life. This image is all about contrasting aspects & takes the viewer on a journey around the frame. Maybe around life too. As well as the world. It is a magnificent image. Well done.
This put a massive smile on my face. Simple concept, very well executed. Nice tilt on the crown. Lovely expression on Mr Dog - mixture of 'I love you, so I'm doing this' & 'I do serve you, but I'm still king'. The wide angle gives a whimsical feeling in line with the theme. Simple story telling at it's best.
How many hours of waiting did it take to achieve this shot? That is the question, I'd like to know. Our friend squirrel here looks very relaxed. My guess would be many, many hours of the photographer being as quiet as mouse - unless they got super lucky. with a one in a gazillion opportunity. I love the lighting. I feel like I'm in English woodland. The reflection is beautiful. The framing is perfect - the log is perfect. The perfect portrait every squirrel would pay very good money for :)
Super congratulations on the winning shot for 'The Colour Orange' Competition. I thought I would list the reasons for selecting this as the winning shot:
A truly wonderful image which is both a documentary photo & clearly a work of art. A rarity to excel as in both categories simultaneously. Big congratulations on winning & looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Colour Palette, Colour Palette Colour Palette again Simplicity which takes great skill & thought to achieve A very brave undertaking with two living subjects, at least one of which who will not understand direction easily - usually dog but not always ;) Lovely expression on both subjects, which usually takes great patience on the photographer's behalf. The position of the girl's little finger translates a disjointed feeling, giving the shot an endearing vulnerability. Nice lighting. Rembrandt. Highlights on the dress highlight the colour orange. Eyes of both subjects perfectly in focus. Gentle, natural edit greatly appreciated. Really lovely image.
Creative, accurately executed, beautiful colour contrast between the blues & the main subject - orange. Love the colour outline on the rim & sides of the glass. Very well done reflections in the main body of the water plus the top of the water & the stem. The reflections have all sorts of connotations for philosophical pondering. Nice contrast between the texture of the flower & the distorted smoothness of the flower's reflection. Lovely digitised aspect of the image also demonstrates the contrast of an old/real world (flower) & the new/digital world (in a digitised way). Truly excellent shot which has obviously taken much time, skill & effort to create.
