The decisive moment

This image, more than any other photograph entered this time, truly fits the brief. It's simply perfectly timed, quirky and intriguing, and works superbly in black and white. Many of the most celebrated street photographers from the past would have been proud of this capture.

An excellent, almost slightly abstract image, that has a certain sense of the unreal. The colour palette, cool and subdued, helps a lot towards the final effect.

This is all about the position of the silhouetted figure with the crashing wave beyond. The composition works perfectly because of this and there's a real sense of a fleeting moment being captured.
