Less is more! A beautiful picture of a crescent moon., but literally with a twist. A crescent moon normally is viewed as a C when viewed from the northern hemisphere, and a revers C when viewed from the southern hemisphere. What the photographer has done in this image, is rotated the moon 90 degrees, and this has offered the viewer a view of the moon that not normally seen. this adds impact and a fresh perspective. Combine the above with good details and a clean image, makes for a beautiful image.
An expertly executed lunar eclipse sequence consisting of several key stages as the Moon passes through Earth's shadow. This is showing the subject of the competition, the moon, in a way not everyone gets to witness themselves. The sequence adds intrigue, impact and interest to what can be a rather normal subject, as everyone is use to seeing it. Showing the viewer a different or unudual view will usually add impact and interest, and this picture does that very well. Colours are also important during a lunar eclips, and getting the colours recorded faithfully is important. This has been done here extremely well.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Astrophotography is a thrilling genre of photography. The moon, with its size and proximity to the Earth offers a unique opportunity to shoot a planetary mass in some detail without needing the most specialist of equipment. On cloudless nights the moon is a presence that can bring a source of night light, and provide an evocative addition to nighttime scenes. For the avoidance of doubt, the moon must be visible in each submitted image, although it if is entirely incidental to the scene then it is unlikely to be awarded.

A well composed and timed image with a graphical element. The correct lens choice has given the required amount of compression and rendered the moon a good size to fit inside the structure. The image is well balanced and composed and the orange and blue colours work well. Its a simple image, that has taken some planning to bring the vision to fruition.
