This is a really well considered Image. The photographer has clearly known what they wanted to acheive when making this photograph. They have had to move to use the tree as a way of shielding the sun from the lens. The formal skills are evident from the silhouetted tree and crosses to the subtle tonal range further into the photograph. This is a multi layered photograph where are eye is taken to all areas of the frame. I love the trees on the horizon. We are told to never shoot into the sun - If your brave enough and have the skill to use the light and what it can do - You end up with a truly wonderful image like this.

This really stood out amongst the hundreds of entries. It works as a beautiful still life. It almost seems constructed rather than seen and their the skill of the photographer to see this and recognise its potential should be commended. It's not an easy image to read so we need to spend time with it looking at the different layers before we fully understand what we are looking at. A very strong image and worthy of its high placement.

I was attracted to subtle colours and the space between in the middle of the frame. It has a strong painterly quality and reminds me of a Constable. We the audience are invited into the scene and walk through it. This is unusal in scenes of tombstones which tend to obstruct this idea of a pathway. This is a quiet photograph that allows us to ponder and consider the actual elements within the photograph and what it means to us. A lovely photograph.
