This image stood out immediately, because I feel as if I'm part of the scene. I can almost feel the wooden stool I'm sitting on and a hand of cards in my fingers. The photograph has atmosphere, authenticity, textures and characters - it is so alive I can almost smell the cigarette smoke and hear the conversations between the players. I want to be there right now - that, for me, is what great travel photography is all about - showing your audience somewhere they've never been, as it would be if they were there, and making them want to step into the scene. Brilliant shot.

Such a stunning image. This photograph just pops right out at you, doesn't it? It's graphic, arresting, unusual, beautiful and in lots of ways, mysterious - how did the photographer get the shot? Was she or he walking on dangerous ice? Is this the tip of a mountain island under the water? The way that the lines in the frozen lake foreground echo and reflect the sharp peak of the rocks, and draw your eye into the frame, is very well done, and I love the subtle tones of blues and creams and sandy browns. Beautiful.

From trekking to Timbuktu and hiking the Himalayas to catching a bus to the supermarket most of us experience travel in one form or another every day. In this round we’re not necessarily looking for exotic locations in fancy far flung locations but rather an image that captures a sense of a ’journey’, that embraces the spirt of adventure and the art of travel, no matter how grand or not.
The simplicity and beauty of this portrait is very arresting. The unusual subject, and her relaxed posture with somewhat challenging expression makes this an intriguing image. I love good use of subtle backlighting, and the low sun bringing the orange fabric to life is superb. Plus that camel's expression is perfect!

This is a fun image and the photographer has done a great job on getting everyone in with the low and wide angle composition. It's tricky to light an image like this a some flash would have helped illuminate their faces and clothes as the shadows make it a bit distracting and dark. But overall great energy!
