View from the Plane Window

June 2022

An unusual composition that makes very good use of the aircraft window to frame the main subject. The warm tones are lovely, both on the buildings and the window frame, and the two buildings are perfectly placed. Great timing, as it can't have been an easy shot to get.

A great abstract composition. The dusting of snow and the shadows create intricate patterns and textures. It's a beautiful but desolate scene and without recognisable features, it's difficult to judge the scale, making it a very pure abstract image. Well done!

I love the textures and patterns in this aerial shot. The sun reflecting off the water, the backlit clouds and what looks like the threat of rain all give this image a huge amount of variety and many layers. I hope the flight wasn't too bumpy! Great image!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** NOTE - Images must be shot from a plane window, and not be drone or aerial photography. Who hasn’t taken one of these images, an artful composition of wing and horizon, in an attempt to bottle the wonder we feel when looking down from our privileged seats in the sky. Marvelling at the world above the clouds, watching the place you’re just leaving diminish in size, or peering eagerly at the country you’re arriving to. As more of us choose to fly less, we can still enjoy each other’s compositions from the cabin.
