This photo is like a painting and fascinated me from the very first moment. The soft light, the "floating" volcanoes above the clouds, in the foreground picture perfect trees. Well composed and the steam/cloud coming out of of one of the craters gives the photos that certain something. Well done - my number 1 in this contest!

What a special moment - to be at the right time on the right spot. Very nicely captured the cloud on top of the volcano. Still not too big to cover the whole peak. The effect of black and white works well in this case as it shows the sharp contrast of snow, cloud and ground. The crop however doesn't persuade me - I personally think there is too much negative space on top. But for sure a Fine Art photo and worth to be printed.

I really like the motion in this photo. Everything seems to float, roll, move. The landscape like waves, the clouds on top cover some of the scenery to make it special but reveal enough to not disturb the overall effect. Lovely colours captured and well seen the leading line which draws the attention right in the middle of the volcanic landscape. I truly love this photo - well done!

A very special photo. Everyone who tried to take night and star photography will appreciate the effort and knows how hard it is to avoid light pollution and be to the right time on the right spot. Here everything worked. The little light pollution in front of the volcano is hardly visible and the milky way is well composed to the right, leaving enough negative space to enhance and not overwhelm the volcanoes. There is even a little leading line with the path through the grass. Well done!

I like it that this photo tells a story. It reminds us that volcanoes are not only beautiful - but can be dangerous. Well composed - although a POV more to the left, so the big cross would be more to the right, would have improved the composition and makes it more balanced. At the moment the right side is a bit empty and the left therefore too "heavy". Well captured the soft (morning?) light and the fluffy clouds.

Impressive photo of the milky way, combined with an active volcano. I like the cold blue hues of the sky in combination with the warm orange colours of the fire and the clouds. In a way we have two explosions - one of the fire and one of the stars. A photo one looks at it for sure longer than only a second. Well done!

I this photo I like the the cold hues. A nice combination of icy cold blue and somehow even the normally warm orange appears here cold an adds to the atmosphere. Nicely composed with the layers of the volcanoes on Lanzarote. The texture of the hills are amazing. A tighter crop would help the photo to become even more impressive, in my personal opinion. There is a bit too much sky seen.

This photo is very different to the other ones in this contest. As it doesn't show the volcano in the center of attention, but the life in the "shadow" of a volcano. I like the story telling effect. Nicely composed with a leading line through the gate and well spotted the reflection in the puddle.

Volcanoes are inspiring, fascinating and most certainly a beautiful part of any landscape. The mixture of danger and beauty keeps us attracted to them. Please share your best photos of volcanoes. It doesn't matter if the volcano is active or dormant; we're not looking only for glowing lava and the fireworks of an erupting volcano, a volcano can also show its beauty and power in total silence.
