May 2023

This photograph really stood out from the crowd. It works so well on many levels. It could be a macro photograph given the stunning composition and attention to detail but we know it is not given the subject matter. The sharpness from the center to the edges is spot on and the use of black and white adds to the graphic nature and texture within the photograph. The tight crop works perfectly as does the highlights on the treads. A well seen and perfectly executed photograph. Well done.

This is such a beautifully constructed image. Waiting for the bikes to come into shot but not going to far into the scene so that they break up the perfect circle in the center. The fact the cyclists are just ahead of each other creates this perfect double act and this is replicated on the other side of the photograph by the two people maybe out for a chat in the bottom right hand side. The choice of black and white really adds to the graphic shapes which are everywhere in this image.. Placing the giant concrete circle as the main point of focus means we have to work hard to really look at what is going on in this complex picture. The exposure is perfect as is the composition. A stunning photograph and worthy winner. Well done.

Great composition and wonderful use of light really make this photograph stand out from the many photographs of bikes that were submitted. The sharpness on the bike works so well with the out of focus individual in the scene but both are very visible. The mask the man is wearing, the lovely shape of his body carrying the box and that light on the bike just lifted by the warm glow hitting the metal on the front wheel then that pop of orange to make the whole image really come alive. A really wonderfully considered and exposed image. I can't fault it in anyway. Fantastic. Well done.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** What have the Sumerians ever done for us? Well they invented the wheel, for one, although it’s a matter of some debate exactly where and when that happened. A few thousand years down the line, you won’t have trouble finding a wheel of some kind or another wherever you look. There are no restrictions on the types of wheels you can enter into this contest, and you can even go looking for toothed wheels in the form of cogs.
