With its unique representation of 'Where Walls Meet', this image immediately stood out from the rest. The already-captivating shot is made even more interesting by the people (and their reflections) walking and sitting in the open ground floor below. The use of a narrow aperture is a clever choice: it allows us to see and enjoy every detail in every element of this shot: from the reflection at the top of the building down to the tiles at the very bottom. The large reflection on the lower half of the frame makes the corner appear like a 90 degree angle, creating a pleasant optical illusion that entertains the eye. By cleverly eliminating the colour element, the photographer conferred strength and drama to the shot. The viewer is now able to focus, without distractions, on the many lines and shapes that make this image the interesting artwork that it is. A fantastic shot that thoroughly deserves first place. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1001+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** This is probably an exploration of the humble corner, but maybe there are other ways in which walls meet? Do they meet cleanly and amicably, and are just built to be together, or is something a little more jarring going on? And what happens on the insides and outsides of corners? If we were naughty we might have been put in one, but it’s less obvious what to do with the outside of a corner, except maybe peer around it and look what’s round the other side.

Lots of texture for the eyes to feast on in this interesting take on 'Where Walls Meet.' From the wood, to the ropes, to the book and the bottles: every object and texture is emphasised by the pleasant, soft light coming from the high window, illuminating the objects just enough whilst maintaining the quiet and still atmosphere of the boathouse. Turning the shot into black and white works very well: with pleasant mid-tone greys and balanced exposure, the viewer can now fully take in the beauty of light & texture, the two main elements of this image. This is a beautiful shot that works as a stand alone capture, but likewise makes me long for more images to tell more of its story. Who does the boathouse belong to, and what does this person look like?
Many corners feature and walls meet in this striking abstract shot. The harsh light from above creates hard shadows that add even more lines to the already strong geometry of this image. The high contrast dramatically enhances the suggestiveness of the sky and the depth of the shapes, increasing the shot's overall impact and attractiveness. A fantastic shot - well done!
