Well done to our first place photographer for capturing this beautiful image of two giraffes. Everything about this set up is spot on, and it’s hard to find fault. The monochromatic conversion has been completed to a high standard, plus the black and white finish helps emphasise the shapes and tones. The photographer has done well to underexpose the background to create a black backdrop, which almost gives the image a studio feel. A truly great black and white wildlife image worthy of first place!

We want you to capture the natural world in monochrome. With colour stripped away, show us the ways that you can accentuate the shape, form, texture and details of wild animals. Add mood and drama with digital darkroom enhancements like doing and burning and split-toning, and experiment with high-key and low-key treatments.
