Once I saw this image I knew it would take a belter to beat it to top spot. Having snorkelled I know that octopus are not normally as friendly as this, so to capture this unique image is quite amazing. To me the composition is spot on and you can almost picture yourself there with the playful octopus, a very clean underwater image and sharp in all the right places. Very well done from me, deserving of top spot.
An amazing action shot, you normally only see filmed on nature programs, it as been captured perfectly by the photographer freezing the chase, keeping all the animals sharp in the frame must have been extremely difficult even shooting multi frames per second capturing this amazing footage is no mean feat so very well done to the photographer, you can almost sense being there amongst the action as it unfolds.
This image really appeals to me its all about shapes, the shapes of the icebergs and the shape of the humpbacks tail, framing is about right even though when viewed full screen it is not as sharp as could be I think capturing it with a bridge camera the photographer as done very well indeed, its an image I could easily see on a canvas.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** A creature at full stretch is a sight to behold, and a challenge to photograph – but when your hard work pays off and you capture an image that reveals something about the power and speed of an animal, there are few things more satisfying. There is potential to shoot images for this competition almost anywhere. Birds scrapping over a feeding table in the back garden can produce a shot every bit as compelling and engaging as a cheetah hunting on a safari. You’ll want to ensure your images represent movement, be that ultra-precise focusing combined with shutter speeds of 1/1000sec or more to be certain everything is pin sharp, or playing with narrower apertures and slower shutter speeds to give a sense of movement and creative blur.
