Your Favourite Place

Congratulations on winning my contest! I absolutely loved this image the second I saw it - the perspective and the lighting give it such a wonderful cinematic quality that really gives you a sense of the atmosphere of the place. Very well done!

There were a huge number of beach images in this contest but this one it definitely the most unique. The composition is so carefully considered, with the stripes on the left hand side of the image matching up perfectly with the stripes on the parasols. Additionally, the absence of any people at a spot that would usually be busy and lively gives the image an almost dreamlike quality that I really like.

This is a really interesting take on one of the most well known tourist destinations in the world. The removal of the background here really draws our attention towards the wonderful symmetry and detail of the architecture, and creates a very striking, abstract image.

A beautiful example of a quintessentially Scottish landscape. The depth of field here has been controlled perfectly to frame the stag as the focal point of the image, whilst also letting the background give us a sense of the scale and grandeur of the scenery. I also appreciate the muted colour scheme which furthers the cold, wintry feel of the scene.

Yosemite is one of those places that has been photographed so many times that it becomes nearly impossible to capture it in a way that hasn't been done before, but this image succeeds by showing a much more imposing, cold atmosphere than is usually displayed.
