Rene Maritz

My name is René Maritz. I am a lifestyle photographer living in Cape Town, South Africa. My family are such an ongoing support to me – thank you for your love and belief in me! I have a passion for photography and love building relationships with people. My love for photography began six years ago. I started going to shows, taking photos of musicians and telling their story through my photography and blog, Soul Sessions. A thought came to me back then, if I combine my love of telling stories with my photography, I could really capture the essence of my passion. An online music magazine, namely Fanbase Music Magazine approached me to write for them on a month to month basis, which I consistently did, for 2 years. In 2014. My work featured on DSTV – Voice SA and Kyknet, Sunday Times and some other local newspapers, as well as Cape Town Magazine. My photo of legendary David Kramer was used for his brand new album, WAKKERSLAAP – this is truly the greatest honour and life achievement for me! In 2017, I was asked to do a ‘water birth shoot‘ – being my first, I was quite nervous, but I can truly say that it has been one of the greatest miracles – to witness a little life enter the world! Those tiny little feet, hands and the very first cry……..tears and jubilation all at once! This moment bonded me forever with the family. In March 2018 I was approached by South Africas’ all-time favourite band – Freshlyground to do an ‘on location’ shoot and to simultaneously cover a fundraising event on their behalf. A week later was was requested to do ‘behind the scenes footage’ of their forthcoming video with ‘The Soil’. Two weeks ago I had the opportunity once again to take photos of them at a gig. This too has been a huge highlight in my photography career.
