Roberto Denis is a photographer who splits his time between Montevideo in Uruguay and Brussels in Belgium. His work explores perception through a language of abstraction and observation. While his work is often rooted in contemporary architecture, it also extends to everyday scenes, fleeting moments and the human presence. Across his series, which includes urban reflections, street snapshots, and portraits, he captures fragments of reality that shift between clarity and ambiguity. Through his close observation of the world around him, he isolates details, gestures and structures, transforming them into compositions of lines, light and rhythm. Glass façades, landscapes, faces and passing moments become surfaces where perception is constantly redefined. Working in both colour and black and white, he navigates between chromatic intensity and tonal reduction. Colour introduces tension and vibration, while black and white distils form, contrast and atmosphere. His images oscillate between documentation and abstraction. In some, the city dissolves into reflections and geometry, while in others, the raw, direct, and unfiltered presence of humans emerges, revealing the quiet depth of everyday life. Situated between two cities and two visual cultures, his work reflects a continuous search for balance between structure and fluidity, and between what is seen and what is felt. His photographs are not merely representations of places or people; they capture moments when perception shifts and the ordinary reveals its hidden complexity.
