My photography goes back to the 1970s with 35mm black and white film, also developing and printing. I’ve recentl;y been through my almost 50-year old carefully filed negatives, giving them light of day with a scanner and PhotoShop, hence the significant number of historic BW photos appearing on my profile. I do rather like the tonal effects that I (sometimes) obtained with the BW film and developer combination I used - sometimes giving more "presence", somehow, to my eyes. Whereas in the past, there was a limit I could achieve in the darkroom, a scanner and PhotoShop have given much more scope for retouching photos, not least in being able to salvage shots that I had previously found not worth printing. It's taken a long time to get to this point! I've tagged these photos as #trbw. Even so, I still like to pull out the old camera at times, loaded with the same BW film, Ilford PAN-F and mounted on a 1970s tripod, since I can't hold a camera steady enough any more, especially as the film is only ISO 50. It all seems so special, since taking each photo and developing a film are significant events. Nevertheless, I do mix these with taking colour photos digitally, which I enjoy too. And it's a lot quicker! Above all, I appreciate the inspiration and purpose I am gaining being here on Photocrowd. It’s wonderful being part of a sharing community that knows no borders, and is driven by such friendliness.
