We love the graphic qualities of this image. The hard edges on the vertical and horizontal axes complement the diagonal shadows perfectly. The choice of black and white is perfect for this midday lighting scenario and makes great use of the strong contrast. It's a shot that is just abstract enough to hold our attention but is familiar enough to be a classic architecture shot too. Well done!

Modern buildings are the perfect subject to get creative in architectural photography. In this competition, form, structure and patterns are in the main focus. Show us what you can do with the rigid buildings with changing perspectives and other creative approaches.

This is a great abstract architecture shot. Its power comes from limiting what we can see and giving us a unique chance to view the subject in a new way. The colour contrast adds depth while the lighting picks out details and enhances texture. Very nicely put together.

The technical choice that makes this shot work is the focal length. A wide frame would have reduced the impact of the repeating patterns, but the telephoto setting compresses the scene and brings all of the structures together. It's a peaceful shot of a poignant scene

This is a classic architecture image which makes brilliant use of negative space. The polarised blue sky adds a contrasting background which shows through the gap in the window, adding multiple layers and frames within frames, complexifying an otherwise simple scene. The perspective distortion is almost well-controlled. Congratulations.

Contrary to other shots in this round, it is the lack of scale which makes this shot work. The close crop has excluded the environment meaning that we could be looking at a doll's house or a life-size apartment block. The dash of red in the corner adds a nice tough of colour contrast too.

This image makes textbook use of lines and arcs while injecting a splash of bold colour. The orange concrete and blue sky contrast nicely while the frame-within-a-frame treatment adds a layer of interest. Depth-of-field is also well-controlled sot ensure good sharpness in the close foreground and distant aircraft. Nicely spotted.

This is one of those architectural images that makes you a little dizzy when looking at it. The perspective conveys a good sense of scale even in the absence of a human figure, while the curve of the barrier is a nice balancing element to the sharp corners of the facade.

We appreciate the sense of scale here. It can be a difficult aspect to capture in architectural shots, especially abstract ones, so the inclusion of humans is a greatly effective way to put what you're seeing in context. The muted colours and graphic lines give it a theatrical style. Nicely done.

This shot is a bit of a brain puzzle! The mirroring effect is popular these days but has been implemented well here. The golds and reds work nicely together and create the effect of looking at a tapestry. The processing is spot on too and draws out plenty of detail.

Smooth curves and low colour saturation are the defining characteristics of this image. The lines flow around the frame and show off the fluidity of the building's design to great effect. It's a cold image, with an unsettling sterility, but it keeps you searching for somewhere to focus.
