This image caught my eye as soon as I saw it, and it was always in my top ten. The subject suits the multiple exposures used wonderfully, as the resulting image is beautifully soft with a dreamlike quality, similar to the snowy woodland scene. The colouring is lovely, with the warmer oranges contrasting with the chilly white of the snow. Multiple exposure photography is very hit and miss due to the difficulty in predicting the outcome, but for me, this is a definite hit! Well done, great work.
Sometimes the simplest of subjects make the strongest of images, and for me this is what we have here. The bold and striking black & white conversion is excellent, with strong contrasts which emphasise the magical shapes which have formed within the ice to maximum effect. Subject choice is spot on for the contest theme, and a technically well executed shot. A worthy winner amongst some strong competition. Congratulations.

In this contest, I would like to see abstract images of nature and natural environments. The subject could be animals, plants or anything else from nature such as rocks and water. There are many ways you could decide to photograph an abstract of your subject: You could decide to show movement in your image, either blurring moving creatures, or using intentional movement of the camera, such as panning, to creatively blur static objects. Alternatively you may choose to focus more closely on the many wonderful patterns, shapes and textures which nature can display. Images could work equally well in colour or black and white, but please ensure the image is an abstract of something from the natural world. I look forward to seeing your images.
There are many things I love about this image, but one thing which appeals, especially for this theme of "abstract" nature, is that we have no clue as to the scale of the subject, which adds to the mystery of the shot. I suspect these rather magnificent rocky formations are quite massive, but they could equally be just a few inches tall. Great use of lighting which emphasises the shape and form of the rocks through the shadows, and also gives a beautifully soft warmth in the colouring. Very close to my top placing, but still a well deserving second place. Congratulations.
Whilst not entirely natural, I love the colours you have created here, with the contrasts of the pinky orange and purpley blues, which make a great combination. Although, from the camera data, this shot looks to have been taken with a slow shutter speed, I am unsure whether the horizontal panning blur was added later in processing or through movement of the camera - whichever, it does not matter, because you have realised the potential of the image to make a great abstract. Still recognisable for what it is, but taken beyond the ordinary view of a sunset over the sea. Lovely image, well done.
This was a late addition to my top ten, but was an image I kept coming back to, so I felt it deserved a top ten placing. I especially like the soft gentleness the image has, with no harsh contrasts or saturated colours. I am not sure how much or how little has been created in processing, but that does not matter here, as the overall effect works for me. Well done on your top ten placing.
This is a great choice of subject for the theme of "abstract nature", as whilst the subject is clear, through your composition and processing, there is the suggestion of something else., looking almost as if the rocks are bleeding into the sand. Good composition with the rocks placed at the top, allowing a decent amount of the sand patterns to be visible. The processing treatment works well too, and adds to the abstract feel. Lovely image, well done.
This image is a fantastic example of what there is to see, if only we look at what is around us. The subject matter is relatively simple, but the patterns formed within the ice are fascinating. Subjects such as this can be difficult to get the composition right, as there is sometimes too much choice about what to include and what to leave out. The shot you have settled on here works well, containing a variety of shapes and patterns to explore with the eye and hold the interest. Great discovery, well captured.
The wonderful colours are what initially drew me to this image, with varied browns and greys, with splashes of rich golden yellow running through the scene. The image has been captured with great details, and although only a relatively small area of this fascinating landscape has been captured, it does a good job in describing the formations to someone who has not had the opportunity to see it for themselves. Composition is good, with the golden patches leading us into the shot on a curving path. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

A fine example of abstract, as the fields have taken on a very graphic look, where the subject has become a composition of shapes and textures, rather than fields and boundaries. Great composition and positioning of the angles. If I were to be picky, the colouring on the left looks maybe a little to orangy to be natural, but that does not detract from a great abstract image. Well done.
