What makes this image a great abstract shot is that the viewer won't instantly know what it is, this means that the viewer will be drawn in and forced to really consider the image . The vibrant colours both complement and clash with each other beautifully and the flowing lines lead the eye back and forth over the picture. The photographer clearly has a very good photographic eye and has displayed great skill with this macro shot of a thermal pool in Yellowstone National Park.

This capture is plain and simple, but at the same time very striking. The colours work beautifully together and the deep blue makes the subject really pop. On first glance you may be fooled into thinking the light coloured subject is just a splash of paint or colour, but on closer inspection you'll discover it is actually an egg yolk jellyfish – an almost otherworldly creature in the depths of the ocean. Surprisingly this shot was taken through the glass at an aquarium, so it is impressive that there are no reflctions or glare from the glass and no distractions from other creatures in the tank.
