Pertinent, realistic and the emotion on the child’s face portrays trauma and desperation. A true vision of ‘aftermath’. Additionally the image is brilliantly processed and the monochromatic editing is truly creditable. When I first browsed the entries the image stood out from the outset and captures the eye and imagination.

This photograph, beautifully edited, creates a sense of isolation. The colours of the building contrast with the muted tones of the water and sky. The building is enveloped by a sense of ‘nothingness’, a flood and from my perspective the photo commendably fulfilled the criteria for ‘aftermath’.

A wonderful monochrome portraying a sense of inner city decay and despair. The twilight zone! I like the composition from behind and the tonal contrasts and textures are wonderful. It is sharp, creative and adds a sense of drama. A great shot.

The wonderful portrayal of the resilience of life in face of chaos and destruction. The mirror image is sharp and provides a wonderful contrast, in juxtaposition, to the surroundings, which creates atmosphere and spatial awareness. A powerful image which reflects ‘aftermath, admirably.

With recent storms blighting countries across the world, news channels and feeds have been overwhelmed with 'aftermath' photos. Sometimes a simple documentary of the effects of a particular event, or perhaps a visual account of the people who endured it. However, we’re leaving this open to interpretation – remember, 'aftermath' doesn't necessarily have to refer to something destructive. Good luck.

Whilst this image wasn’t commended or awarded, I loved the subject and the rusty decay. It is sharp and well composed although a little too tightly framed? I would have liked to see a slightly bigger picture. It fits the focus on ‘aftermath’ very well.

The image truly reflects decay and dereliction. I love the lighting and the additional hint of warmth on the face of West Pier. The birds add an additional element of ambience and the composition is commendable. Decadence now gone but not forgotten. An excellent photograph.
