At first glance it is difficult to tell if this is a landscape shot or a view of algae through a microscope. The flattened perspective effectively removes context and creates a truly stunning abstract scene. The lighting, colour contrast and composition are perfectly balanced to produce an image which is both beautiful and visually exciting in equal measure.
The graphic qualities of this scene perfectly demonstrate how you don't need your own plane and a 500mm lens to capture inspiring aerial images. The composition of this scene makes the frame almost seem like an abstract artwork, pushed by the decision to pair two separate frames as a diptych.. Minimalist and exceptionally eye-catching.

Whether you use a drone to capture a birds-eye view of the landscape, or use your usual camera to take shots from an elevated viewpoint, we want to see your best aerial images. Focus on patterns, shapes and bold colours to wow us with your entries.
Aerial photography is about more than simply shooting from an elevated position - it's about finding subjects which people would not usually see or presenting well-viewed scenes in a completely novel way. This shot has exceptionally strong perspective, drawing the eye from the bottom to the top of the frame, while the contrast of the bright and dark tones is hugely satisfying. Well done!

This is a very literal interpretation of the round brief. The subject matter is certainly stunning, yet the view is one seen by millions of people every day. In order to produce a visually arresting photograph we must look for ways to use opportunities for images in the most effective way possible, presenting familiar objects on exciting ways. A longer focal length may have helped 'elevate' this image even more!
