As soon as I saw this photograph, I knew it was going to be my favourite in the contest. It is completely stunning. You have really captured the moment; the use of a fast shutter speed has enabled you to capture the tiny droplets of water surrounding the jay in the middle, and the bokeh really adds to the shot. The jay is perfectly in focus. You mentioned in your description that you waited an entire day for this shot; and in my opinion it was well worth it! A truly stunning shot. For most of the shots entered into this competition, strong and bright colours were a vital part of the composition and overall photograph. However, this shot is the complete opposite, which really makes it stand out from the crowd. The muted colours and silvery bokeh in the background teams together to create a beautifully pure result. With any other colour scheme this praying mantis may have been lost among the colours, but you have really done it justice. True to your title; you have shown the mantis in all of its glamour! Wow! The colours in this shot are splendid. The bokeh surrounding the blackbird creates a beautiful warm atmosphere, and I love the fact that some of the plants in the foreground are still vaguely recognisable despite being part of the bokeh.
