Drama, interest, symmetry, assymetry, lovely architecture, interesting architecture, contrasting architecture, life, movement.......this shot has all the ingredients, well done ! It's got so much content to explore, it's framed beautifully with the window but ins't predictable, the people make it special, they add movement and life and interest. The 'layers' - the foreground and background give it an architectural 3d element, I can imagine the architect, staircase manufacturer and the museum itself would love this shot ! Well done, nicely seen and captured

Gorgeous ! A really beautiful image, captured well ; the exposure is perfect with detail in the highlights and shadows and the composition and perspective and colour - really nice. It's got a calm element, a kind of softness and gentleness, which I like. You've framed it well, paying attention to where the frame begins and ends. Elevational views generally always work when photographing architecture, like an architectural drawing, and architects like this kind of view. Really pleasing on the eye and I'm a bit jealous !

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Good architecture is the sum of all its parts, and whilst an interesting building will often impress at first sight, it is in the studying of the smaller details that the quality of the design and build will be assessed. There is no restriction by age of building in this contest, so everything from gargoyles to zinc cladding can be entered. The architectural details can be on the outside or the inside of the building, but should really be part of the fabric of the building, rather than what one might think of as interior design that has been added after the building was completed.

I know this building very well (fellow Tynesider !). This is a lovely shot, it's got life and interest and scale. The colours and vibrancy are great, the composition nice and the exposure bang on. I wonder if you were lucky with the timing (right moment of twilight outside combined with the crowd inside) and thsi lovely scene presented itself to you or whether it took great effort and planning. It doesn't matter, a great shot is a great shot ! You've been awarded a Commend because while there is architectural detail in shot, it's not an image OF architectural detail. But even so the shot is worth awarding.

Meet the expert judge

As judges, we're always looking for and hoping to see images that have something extra, something that makes it more interesting, intriguing, full of life. Cartier Bresson summed it up as 'seizing the moment', how an image, if taken at the right moment, can make it more interesting and powerful. Without the birds and their shadows, this shot would be nothing. With them it's something a bit special. Well done, keep looking for and finding moments and scenes like this

Nice shot ! There were so many shots of staircases entered into this competition and when you're judging and see the same image over and over, you can't see the merit of them anymore. To be honest looking up or down a staircase is always going to produce a good and interesting image, the structure and shape does all the work for you. But this one is nice, it's not predictably centred like the others and therefore stood out a bit. You've seen a nice scene and composition and not shot the predictable view - keep doing what you're doing but next time think...what can I add to it ? How can I make this different to the average staircase shot ? via composition or viewpoint or including a person, Please don't take this as criticism, nex time you enter a competition think about what might grab the attention of a judge and how you might stand out from the crowd
