Architectural Shadows

December 2022

Love your treatment on this, really stands out from all the other shots.

Fantastic framing of the subject and a perfect example of the rule of thirds, the framing really draws my eye through the image and the shadows tick all the boxes of the brief.

Nice shot!

A beautiful shot and again the colour grading is spot on.

Framing is good, I would maybe like the person a little lower in the frame so they are a bit more prominent but the colours really pop and draw my eye to them so it definitely works.

Great portrait of our times!

Would like to know a bit more of the story behind this shot and if you had to wait for the shot or if it was purely spontaneous but a great shot non the less.

The handling of the tones is great but a little more contrast on the back wall would have made it pop a little more in my opinion.

Congrats on a top 10 image!

Great shot and could have easily been in the top 10, the placement of the subject on a rule of thirds line is great and the use of the shadows and structure of the building is great to draw the viewers eye in.

Great shot.

What an amazing shot, I love the sense of scale you get in this image and it was a very close decision to not include it in my top 10 so you should be proud of this image.

The colour treatment is great, I would have liked to have seen a bit more contrast to bring out the shadows a bit more but fantastic shot.

Beautiful shot which tells a great story and leaves me asking questions which I think every good image should.

The framing of the red top really draws the eye and the hidden gentlemen off to the left really makes this image.

A fantastic image which works really well as a thumbnail to draw the viewer in and then when viewed large on a black background looks just great.

You've handled the tones really well and produced an image you should be proud of.

Beautiful shot and you've handled the tones and the colours really well here a very easy shot to get wrong so well done for that.

The pops of colours throughout work really well and make for a very interesting image.

Instantly knew this should be in my top 10, great framing of the bicycle and the colours work fanatically.

The slight direction of the pillars leading the same way as the cyclist walks me through this image beautifully.

Great shot.

To say you describe this as "not your usual type of image" I think it's fantastic,.

To me it has a really grand biblical feel to me and the treatment is perfect drawing the viewers eye to the subject brilliantly.

Well done.

Great shot which ticks all boxes of the brief, the use of the shadow to draw the eye is perfect and the gentleman at the bottom just makes the image, great eye to spot this and congrats on a really nice image.

Beautiful shot which really stands out as a thumbnail.

I would have liked to have seen this perfectly symmetrical and the barrel distortion removed which I think would have improved the shot but your colour treatment is great and really works for the shot.

The interplay of light and form is one of the many considerations in the mind of a good architect when they are designing. In this contest we’re less focussed on the architecture, and more on the shadows that it casts - shadows that might be falling on the building itself, or the area around it. When it’s possible to return to the same building at different times of day, and in different lighting conditions, one can explore the many ways in which that building’s shadows will interact with its surroundings.
