Meet the expert judge
It’s a shame, although this competition is titled “astrophotography” there are not 3 to 4 categories that separate landscape, moons, creative etc from general astrophotography, as this image would definitely take first place in its field. Technically outstanding both in the fieldwork production and post-production, an absolutely beautiful image to spend time gazing at.

Please explain that the image is a composite of two different images as the galactic core doesn't align to the north, nor can this much of the centre of the galaxy be seen in this part of Scotland; however, it's an excellent attempt at composting two images, and would have been commended if a better explanation of image creation was given. Keep up the good work.

It’s tripods and manual mode at the ready, as we point our cameras to the heavens and photograph the night sky. Astrophotography tends to involve a decision on whether to go for a long exposure and shoot dynamic star trails, or a shorter exposure and show off the glory of the Milky Way. Both approaches require a lot of patience, and trial and error, but when mastered produce some of the most impressive images you’ll see.
