Autumn

Stunning autumn landscapes showing the hues of autmn woodlands, set off against mountain backdrops or flowing rivers are all very well, but this image stood out from the rest. Once it captured my attention I appreciated it all the more, and for me it represents autumn in a way that is familiar and accessible to many; a leaf-littered urban walkway, encountered in many towns and cities around the world, recognisable by those who have more limited access to the stunning autumn-scapes understandably dominating a contest such as this. A beautiful image, allowing the viewer to see through the bare lower trees to the moorland beyond. The line of stepping stones across the water in the foreground invites the viewer to step into the scene and enjoy all it has to offer. The square crop suits the scene and aids the composition. Colours have been kept quite muted, which gives a naturalness to the image. Great work, well done on your top ten placing.

A great close-in woodland shot, becoming rather abstract in its composition, which I really like. The silvery-white colours on the bark allows the tree trunks to stand out nicely from the rich golden yellows and oranges of the leaves behind. I also like the greenery at the base of the frame, which helps keep the scene contained. Great image, well done on your top ten placing.

A beautifully natural-looking scene, capturing the morning mist encountered as a reward for rising and venturing out early in the day. The light mist in the background and swirling above the water in the foreground adds a lovely mood of calm. Colours are great, perfectly illustrating the season of autumn. The reflection captured in the foreground adds to the image without dominating. Congratulations on your third place finish.
