In second place the photographer has done well to create a bold and dynamic composition. It just goes to show the importance of looking up once in a while! The photographer has done well to correctly expose the scene as it can be tricky shooting into the sky. They have also created a great atmospheric finish by framing the bright trees against a moody grey sky. Finally they have edited the final result to a high standard - the scene is nicely saturated without pushing it over the top.
As the old saying goes ‘less is more’ and in this autumnal scene that definitely appears to be true. By creatively composing the scene to include just the tops of the trees the photographer in third place has eliminated any distractions leaving us with a minimalist result. The white sky frames the last remaining colourful leaves, and dark branches perfectly. The use of the negative white space creates an interesting balance in the frame giving the final result great impact.
