Ball Sports

In most cases sport is about drama, tension, speed. This photograph works so well because it is the opposite. It is a study of quiet calm, Patience. Everybody lost in the moment and full of concentration. The photographer has placed the people very well around the space so we get to see the whole scene play out, but what is happening. I do not know but that only intrigues me the viewer even further. The muted colors add to the serene and slow pace to proceedings. This is a wonderfully considered photograph that tells us sport can be different. Lovely.

You just have to laugh which is really not the right thing to do but sport throws up the most wonderful and complex visuals which mean we react in so many different ways. Having played cricket I feel his pain and yes if it does happen to you the audience first give out a slight sigh then they laugh. This is a great example of having your eye on the ball. Good sports photography is about knowing the sport you are photographing and placing yourself in the best position to get the perfect pictures. This photographer has done that to great effect. Wonderful capture.

Passion, commitment and focus are what this wonderful photograph tells us about this scene. It also shows us the wider beauty of the role sport plays. It can be cruel, it can be wonderous and it brings people together. To be getting so wet in horrible conditions is only something that happens happily in sport. The image is successful because it shows us probably not the most importnat part in the game but it talks about people. The boys and the different expressions on the faces is truely unique. Everyone different yet all caught up in the moment. The use of color works well as does the shallow depth of field. The point of view is maybe of a parent on the side which only adds to the occasion of what kids communal sport is about. Freindship, passion. Superb.
