Great contest!

A great compostion of these impressive concrete shapes. The format chosen really suits this picture and I love the way the artificial yellow light peeks in at the top on each side. A really nice example of how concrete can be used in art.

This is a portrait of both the person and the concrete wall. The composition has been really well thought out and the open umbrella gives a nice focal point that attracts you also to the pattern of the concrete. Great use of the light too.

This is a very sensitive capture of the heart-rending Holocaust monument in Berlin. The photo brings out the individual surface characteristics of each concrete block very well and their sturdiness contrasts well against the fleeting clouds . The smart use of shadows adds a sense of history and remembrance. Very apt.

When you think concrete you often think minimalist and this shot really shows why. This is a really nice abstract composition with a great capture of the light without which the picture would be much less interesting. Very well done.

The old age of the concrete bunker showing on its surface is very well captured in this picture. Despite its purpose, the shape of the bunkers is quite aesthetic and used well in the compostion of this picture. With the nice capture of light, this all adds up to a great piece of photography!

This picture creates a very nice atmosphere through a brilliant capture of light in this concrete staircase. This is further emphasised by the reflections from the staircase railings. The composition with the multiple stairs is also very well done. Great work.

I love the spaces under concrete bridges and viaducts and this photo shows why photographers should pay them more attention. This great picture brings out the characteristics of the concrete pillars very clearly, emphasised by the use of black and white photography. This, and the use of symmetry, creates an almost mystic atmosphere.

This is a great shot of these different floors of concrete with their individual characteristics. The compostion has been chosen well and the light also works really well. For me, this is a great example of how a picture with only the natural grey colour of concrete can still be very interesting.

Concrete is a material widely used in building and civil engineering projects but, where visible, often viewed by many people as ugly and unattractive. In this contest, you are challenged to submit photographs that bring out the beauty of structures made out of concrete (buildings, bridges etc.), either in colour or black & white. The shots could be taken outside or inside and focus on whole structure or just details. A focus on design or shape is an obvious option but consider also bringing out surface patterns on ageing concrete or adding to your photo by working with shadows. Good luck.
