Birds in flight

Whilst I was reviewing all of the entries I mostly selected single birds or close ups. This one appealed to me because of the vivid colours of the sunset and the details of the waves.The bird in flight doesn't need to be there to make it a good photograph but it certainly enhances it.

I have only once seen a Kingfisher in the wild so to be able to capture this shot astounds me. I love the movement in the shot with the water droplets. I hope it caught it's dinner next time it dived.

There were a surprisingly large number of red kite photos. This one stood out to me due to the mottled cloud behind the bird. The light seems to shimmer off the bird's back showing the feather colouration in more detail.

This image stood out to me for the detail in the feathers, face and claws. The wing shape and the open mouth give even more interest to the shot. There is great depth of field. I did not easily recognise it was an owl.

I was looking through some of the entries a few days ago and this shot make me smile so I had to rate it high. Puffins are definitely not the most graceful of birds in flight but this one seems to have a personality.

People overlook the poor pigeon, even calling them flying rats. This shot shows they are as graceful as any other bird. The shaping and movement of the wings was captured perfectly. I hope it landed on something other than your camera.
