Black And White Infra Red Conversions

April 2017

Crowd
winner

Just like my winner's image, this has been taken with care and precision before any post processing. As I said on the winner's image foliage is the main attraction in IR photography and it has been used perfectly here to bring out great depth where the plant has grown over the boat and given the viewer a 3D quality image. Stunning clarity and detail in all the surrounding trees and plants, and of course you have the darker shades of the pine trees in the background because they do not reflect much IR light and neither does the old boat here as your main focal point. Another stunning image which I'd like to think gives other photographers the enthusiasm to get a camera converted and try out this medium of photography for themselves.

This image has a little bit of everything in it! Foliage, grasses, buildings and water. How to do an infrared shot and pack everything in. Because the lamp posts are black here they add some nice contrast to the rest of the image. Skillfully executed with no blown highlights and beautiful reflections in the water. A really beautiful Infrared shot.

Good to see another genuine IR image. I love the three sheep and the avenue of trees. However personally I think it's just too bright in that top left hand corner. My eye keeps getting drawn up there which is distracting me from the main focal point of the image. It's a personal opinion so it's not a criticism. Apart from that I love it .

So much skill here in another top class Infrared image. You don't see many IR shots that are this good on cloudy days because it's really difficult to get them to look interesting, but here the photographer has the skill to give the clouds massive drama and a sense of foreboding without being heavy handed on the post processing. A gentle touch has been used to bring out detail in a very subtle way. The clouds open up right above the beach huts which directs the eye to them and then you start to look over the entire image to see the gorgeous light spill onto the dunes and that in turn gives you shadow detail on the rear of the huts. A sublime image where you can keep looking at it but never get bored.

A very clever use of mirroring! At first glance you wouldnt know it was a mirror image. I like it because it's nice and subtle, you can see its infrared but it doesn't whack you about the face with any blown highlights. Nicely done

The photographer here has put in all my favourite things! Old cars, wooden barns and shacks, fabulous sky and all in Infrared to boot! Super. I love the composition and the image is beautifully exposed. This black and white infrared contest has bought out some of the best images I have seen. Thank you for entering.

I like this image because the light is well controlled and it contains lots of foliage. Th bridge gives it excellent contrast. The clouds are perfectly exposed and they have lovely texture about them. My one grumble would be the power lines above the bridge. It's my one big dislike in images and although it's a time consuming job getting them out it would really improve this for me. Apart from that nitpicking point I think it's excellent.
